Osteoporosis Talk

It was a pleasure to welcome guests Margaret, Diane, Anne, Carole and Brian to our first meeting of 2025. We look forward to them becoming regular members.

It was also a great pleasure to welcome back members who hadn’t been able to attend for some time due to illness. We were also able to warmly welcome Fr Mylin who is taking care of our spiritual needs whilst Fr Anthony is resting and visiting his family.

Our speaker for January was Trisha Watson of the West Surrey Group of the Royal Osteoporosis Society. Trisha was the first outside speaker to be able to make good use of our new media system. The projector and audio system worked so well, and all credit goes to the OLSD Media team for all their work planning and installing the new equipment and for providing training to our core group on its use. Thank you too, for the easy-to-follow step by step user guide.

Trisha Watson’s talk was interesting, relevant and kept us all engaged, and I am attaching her presentation as a PDF. It has all the links that she pointed us to for further information.

Several members have asked for a further session on exercise for osteoporosis and we will see what we can do to arrange this as an “extra-curricular” event.

Tea and cake provided a break between the presentation and two short ROS videos on exercising safely and exercising for impact and muscle strength.

The Mamma Margherita Fellowship also offered a huge thank you to Sharon for all her hard work preparing a delicious Epiphany lunch and would have presented her with a small gift, if she hadn’t been allowed to slip away early!

Our afternoon was brought to a close by Graham whose thought for the day invited us to reflect on several things:

  • What comes after Christmas?
  • St Matthew’s call to “Go and make disciples of all nations – teach them
  • St Mark’s “Go out to the whole world; proclaim the gospel to all creation
  • Reconciliation (which reminded me of the beautiful parish Reconciliation Service  on 20th December 2024)
  • The brief and simple idea of “If it is to be, it is up to me”. Ten two letter words of great importance.

Our own Fr Anthony will have returned to the parish for our February meeting which will begin with Mass and Anointing at 2pm on 13th February and will be continue in the hall with refreshments and a concert by Dukes Ukes ukulele band.

Do join us!
